Resilience | Pukehou, Hawke’s Bay
This row of trees close to Pukehou, a small farming community in between Hastings and Waipawa in Hawke's Bay, is a regular subject of my photography. The fields here, as well as other parts of New Zealand, were flooded by Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023, causing significant damage to crops and houses. It was good to see that these trees are still standing tall and proud, and were as inviting as ever, especially in the gentle light of dawn. It gave me a sense of resilience and hope, embodied by the enduring presence of these splendid trees.
