Workshop Terms and Conditions

General

You must be 18 years or older to attend a weekend workshop unless you attend with a guardian.

Payment of the deposit for the workshop means you have read, understood and agree to all the terms and conditions outlined in this document.

Bookings and Payment

Your booking is not confirmed until full payment is made.

To book your place in a workshop you will be required to pay a 20% non-refundable deposit.  The remaining balance must be paid 6 weeks prior to the start of the workshop.  You will be emailed an invoice for the deposit and another invoice for the remaining balance.  Payment options will be on the invoice and payment must be in New Zealand Dollars.

Cancellation by you

If you are no longer able to attend your scheduled workshop, the following cancellation fees will apply:

  • You cancel more than 2 months before the workshop (assuming you have paid the deposit); you will be eligible for a full refund less the deposit paid.

  • You cancel 2 weeks to 2 months prior to the workshop start date; you will be eligible for a full refund less the deposit paid.

  • You cancel within 2 weeks of the workshop start date; no refund available.

  • In the event that we can fill your place on the workshop, then your deposit paid will be refundable less a $100 administration fee.

You are strongly encouraged to take out travel insurance to cover any amounts not able to be refunded to you due to the above cancellation policy.

Cancellation by Jos Buurmans Photography

We reserve the right to cancel a workshop at any time (before or during a workshop) due to extreme circumstances, including unsafe weather conditions, a natural disaster, a medical emergency, a lack of participants, or other unforeseen events.

In these instances, you will be eligible for a full refund or a credit to be redeemed within 12 months, minus costs already incurred by Jos Buurmans Photography in relation to the workshop.

Weather / Alternative Locations

The weather in New Zealand is unpredictable and that is part of the attraction of being a landscape photographer in New Zealand.  We will do our best to visit the locations mentioned in the workshop outline, however Jos Buurmans Photography reserves the right to alter the itinerary during the workshop to make the best of local weather conditions.

A final decision will be made 3-5 days before the start of the workshop if a severe weather system is likely to irrecoverably impact the workshop.  The workshop will not be cancelled in the event of normal, but potentially unpleasant, weather including rain, storm, cold, heat and snow.

In the event the workshop is disrupted by a severe event (e.g. weather) and a workshop location is not accessible or we are unable to leave a location due to a severe event, you will be responsible for your share of the additional group costs required to make alternative arrangements to enable the workshop to continue or to make our way to the nearest alternative town with air transport to make our way home.

Insurance

You are responsible for all insurances relating to your workshop attendance (medical, equipment, travel).  We strongly recommend you obtain travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances that may prevent you from attending the workshop such as travel delays, workshop cancellation due to severe weather, natural disaster, transport strikes, political disturbances, COVID related scenarios, or personal health emergencies.

Health & Safety

You are responsible for informing Jos Buurmans Photography of any health conditions (including any dietary requirements) that may affect your participation in the workshop, and you are responsible for ensuring any personal medication is brought and administered.

By booking a place on the workshop, you are confirming you have the required health and fitness to undertake photography at all the locations and can comfortably sustain the long days required while out in the field (from 5am - up to 10pm).

You are responsible for ensuring you bring appropriate gear to each session of the workshop as conditions can vary during the day.

You are also responsible for your own safety for the duration of the workshop.  Jos Buurmans Photography will not be held liable for any accidents or damage to your person or equipment, or damage to the natural environment that is caused by you.

Appropriate Behaviour

By booking a place on the workshop, you agree to act appropriately for the duration of the workshop.  Any behaviour that disrupts the workshop or impacts on the other participants will not be tolerated.  In the event you are asked to leave the workshop as a result of inappropriate behaviour, no refund will be given.

Model Release

We may take photos and video during the workshop for marketing reasons.  Jos Buurmans Photography holds unrestricted right to use and publish photographs of the workshop (in which you may be included), for editorial, trade, advertising, and any other purpose and in any manner and medium; and to alter and composite the same without restriction and without your inspection or approval.  While we will take all practical steps to consult with you prior to publishing any imagery that you feature in, this cannot be guaranteed.

Please advise us in writing in advance if you do not wish to be photographed or filmed.

Liability Waiver

You will be required to sign a form at the beginning of the workshop accepting the risks that are inherent in outdoor photography and releasing Jos Buurmans Photography from liability for:

  • Unforeseen circumstances that may affect the workshop including, but not limited to, travel delays, severe weather and natural disasters,

  • Personal injury, illness or death, and

  • Damage to your equipment.

We’ll use this formation so that we can:

  • Anticipate your needs & provide the safest possible experience during the workshop, and
